Born in the Philippines, and raised in Florida, our Women’s Boxing instructor, JP Ryan, cultivated his interest in boxing when he joined the Air Force in 2008.
He was first stationed in Glendale, Arizona at Luke Air Force Base. To stay in the best shape possible and also be combat-ready, Ryan took up boxing and it soon became one of his favorite sports. In 2013, Ryan began teaching boxing classes at a local boxing gym. Six years later he was transferred to Osan Air Base in South Korea in 2014. He trained boxing in South Korea for 2 years and even set up a boxing a program at the base and was one of their first trainers. Fun fact, Ryan trained with our Muay Thai instructor Drake Montoya at Osan Air Force Base and helped him with his Muay Thai program.
In 2016 he was stationed in Arkansas for 1 year and trained at Straightright Gym in Little Rock. There he won his exhibition match for Arkansas Gym Wars. For Ryan, competing and staying in shape is not the only reason why he is passionate about boxing. His students are his greatest inspiration and there is nothing more rewarding than helping them achieve their weight loss goals.
