Our gym here in Avondale, AZ has been featured on numerous websites and articles. Damri has been featured for community service, news, grand openings, new programs etc. Among these websites have been, AZLocalBusiness.com and AZCentral. Below is the article that was written on AZCentral’s magazine and website.
On November 23, 2016 Damri MMA was mentioned on the one and only AZCentral.com with how the gym started and when it was going to open. The following is the article from AZCentral.com.
Artur Niewiadowski and his two children opened a mixed martial arts gym in Avondale on Nov. 5.
Damri Muay Thai, at 735 N. 114th Ave., is in the American Sports Center property.
The name reflects the gym’s Thai background. “Damri” translates to elephant in Khmer, the core language that developed the Thai language, according to the gym’s website. And Muay Thai is a ancient form of Thai boxing. The name is a nod to Thai fighters who protected their elephants, which were valuable in battle.
Niewiadowski said the gym initially was going to be purely a Muay Thai school, but he opted to include programs such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and boxing to provide members with more options.
The 5,200 square-foot gym includes a MMA cage, a boxing ring, more than 2,000 square-feet of Dollamur floor mats, a large selection of boxing bags and expert trainers with 60 years of combined experience, he said.
Niewiadowski, shared more about the gym with The Republic and azcentral.
Question: What makes the gym unique?
Answer: Damri is not just another MMA gym. After 12 years of being exposed to various training centers around the Valley, I knew what I had to do in order to be unique. We have been open two weeks and our trainers have our members coming back for more. The pricing I have established is also unique. I have the only facility in Arizona that I know of with the motto “No belt or test fees.” When an individual advances to a higher level of skill, I don’t believe in charging someone additional money because they are doing well and moving up the ranks.
Q: Why did you choose this location?
A: I saw the potential in the American Sports Center property because of its high volume in foot traffic and the aesthetically pleasing building. I also like the fact that I would be the first person to occupy the space and I had the chance to design it from concrete up. Being next to the ASC assures that we are always surrounded by like-minded athletic people who enjoy training and being around their community neighbors.
Q: What made you want to open your own business?
A: My daughter and son, Katia and Sebastian, were my only motivation in the beginning. They have been training since they were 3 years old. Now at 14 and 15 years of age, I wanted them to continue and have a place of their own. Now the community has become our motivation, we (my children and I) want to give back and show everyone how training changed our lives and brought us close together as a family.
